Participant funding for the BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. mid-term update
Status
This participant funding opportunity is open from November 28, 2025, to January 23, 2026.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will conduct a public meeting in May 2026, at which BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. (BWXT NEC) will provide a mid-term update on licensed activities at its Toronto and Peterborough facilities.
The BWXT NEC Toronto facility is located in the traditional territory of many nations, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples, and now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. The BWXT Peterborough facility is situated on the Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory and the traditional territory of the Williams Treaties First Nations.
BWXT NEC holds 2 separate Class IB licences for its Toronto and Peterborough facilities. Both licences expire on December 31, 2030. The mid-term update will cover the first 5 years of the 10-year licensing periods for both facilities. In addition to the update from BWXT NEC, CNSC staff will present an assessment of BWXT NEC’s performance over the current licence periods for both facilities.
The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties in:
- reviewing documentation, including CNSC staff’s and BWXT NEC’s Commission member documents
- participating in the Commission meeting by providing new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission
Up to $75,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all successful applicants.
