Subject: CNSC Staff’s Review of Documents to Support Paladin Canada Inc.’s Application for a Licence to Prepare Site for and to Construct a Uranium Mine and Mill
Mr. Huffman,
I can confirm that CNSC staff have completed a sufficiency check of the licensing documents that Paladin Canada Inc. (Paladin) has submitted as per the Uranium Mines and Mills Regulations (Regulations). CNSC staff have determined that what Paladin provided is sufficiently detailed, and that section 8.3(1) of the Regulations is triggered. This section stipulates:
8.3 (1) The Commission shall render its decision in respect of an application within a time period of 24 months from the day on which the notice is posted in accordance with paragraph 8.2(b).
Note that Section 8.3(2) of the Regulations contain various exclusions from the 24-month time frame, which may apply to Paladin. CNSC staff will continue to work closely with Paladin staff to prepare for the next steps of the licensing process.
Sincerely,
Jude Samson
