Participant Funding for the Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2020

This participant funding offering is open from July 12 to August 13, 2021.

Participant funding notice

The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous peoples, members of the public, and stakeholders in reviewing CNSC staff’s Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2020 and in submitting comments in writing to the Commission. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, the CNSC is offering Indigenous intervenors the opportunity to make oral presentations. Oral presentations will be made remotely due to potential travel restrictions or limitations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

From December 15 to 16, 2021, the CNSC will hold a public meeting where CNSC staff will present the regulatory oversight report to the Commission and speak on the report. The report itself will provide CNSC staff assessment on the safety performance of the Canadian nuclear power generating sites, consisting of nuclear power plants and associated waste management facilities during the 2020 calendar year, with limited updates regarding certain developments in 2021.

Up to $50,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. PFP applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed submission will provide the Commission with information directly relating to the 2020 regulatory oversight report, and to licensee safety performance at CNSC-licensed nuclear power generating sites during 2020. Funding for travel to the Commission meeting is not within the scope of this funding opportunity.
