Participant funding for regulatory oversight reports for the 2024 calendar year
Status
This participant funding opportunity is open from July 9 to August 25, 2025.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties in reviewing and submitting comments in writing to the Commission on CNSC staff’s 5 regulatory oversight reports (RORs) for the 2024 calendar year. Persons seeking to intervene are invited to submit 1 written intervention, which may address any or all of the RORs for 2024. In addition, in the spirit of reconciliation and in recognition of the Indigenous oral tradition of sharing knowledge, the CNSC is offering Indigenous intervenors the opportunity to make oral presentations. The facilities and activities covered by the 2024 RORs are located in the traditional and treaty territories of many Indigenous Nations and communities, as described in each report.
During the week of March 23, 2026, the CNSC will hold a public meeting to present the following 5 RORs to the Commission:
- Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Power Generating Sites: 2024
- Regulatory Oversight Report for Uranium and Nuclear Substance Processing Facilities in Canada: 2024
- Regulatory Oversight Report for Uranium Mines and Mills in Canada: 2024
- Regulatory Oversight Report on the Use of Nuclear Substances in Canada: 2024
- Regulatory Oversight Report for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories Sites: 2024
In these RORs, CNSC staff provide their assessment of the safety performance of licensees in their respective sectors during the 2024 calendar year.
Applying for funding
In advance of the public meeting, the CNSC will offer up to $300,000 in funding through its Participant Funding Program. Funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Participant funding applications must clearly demonstrate how the proposed intervention will provide the Commission with information directly related to the 5 RORs for the 2024 calendar year and to licensees’ regulatory performance as outlined in the reports. Applicants need to submit only 1 funding application, even if their intervention addresses multiple RORs. Applicants must clearly specify in their application which 2024 ROR(s) their proposed intervention will cover.
To apply, please submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. An application form can be submitted by:
