Abstract:
In 2021, the CNSC proposed amendments to the Canadian Nuclear Security Regulations (NSR) to regulate nuclear security using a more performance objective-based approach, thereby allowing licensees greater flexibility in the strategies and measures that they use to meet nuclear security requirements. In addition, the CNSC is updating the nuclear security regulatory documents (REGDOCs) to provide guidance on meeting these updated regulatory requirements.
The consultative process for updating regulations and REGDOCs, and the proposed regulatory changes were previously presented by the CNSC at CyberCon23. This paper will provide an update on the status of this project, including a description of the new regulatory requirements for cyber security and information protection. Also to be discussed, is the key implementing guidance from the updated REGDOCs.
