Participant Funding Program decision – Kineepik Métis Local’s participation in annual uranium mines and mills engagement session

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) offered funding through its Participant Funding Program (PFP) to assist Kineepik Métis Local (KML) in participating in the annual uranium mines and mills engagement session in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with CNSC staff. This included support for travel to the session.

The information gathered from the meeting(s) and these activities will be included in the relevant Commission member document to bring valuable information directly to the Commission.

Background

The CNSC makes participant funding available to:

  • enhance Indigenous and public participation in the CNSC’s environmental assessment and licensing processes
  • help Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties bring valuable information to the Commission

A funding review committee (FRC) was established to review the KML funding application received by the CNSC’s PFP administrator and to make recommendations on the allocation of funding to the applicants.

On August 17, 2026, the FRC reviewed KML’s PFP application received by the CNSC.

Participant funding decision

The CNSC has carefully considered the recommendations of the FRC on the allocation of participant funding for KML’s participation in the Uranium Mines and Mills Annual Engagement Session.

The CNSC will award funding to the recipient as listed below.

Recipient CNSC-approved funding
Kineepik Métis Local $6,826.88
Total  $6,826.88
