The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) has issued an order to Whistler Food and Beverage Inc. prohibiting the use of a Filtec FT-50 radiation gauge, located at 3600 Bainbridge Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia, to ensure the health and safety of workers and the public.
The order was issued following an announced inspection on April 8, 2026, and a subsequent follow-up telephone conversation on April 13, 2026, which identified that the previously designated radiation safety officer (RSO) was no longer employed by Whistler Food and Beverage Inc. and that no qualified and trained individual had been appointed to provide regulatory oversight. Furthermore, the licensee was unable to produce prescribed records demonstrating compliance with CNSC regulatory requirements.
The order will be closed once Whistler Food and Beverage Inc. provides written evidence acceptable to the CNSC that a qualified RSO has been appointed and that a functional radiation safety program has been implemented, or upon confirmation that the licensee has provided the CNSC with written evidence that the gauge has been dismounted by and transferred to a CNSC-authorized third-party service provider.
