Administrative monetary penalty issued to Noremtech Inc.

On August 14, 2026, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) issued an administrative monetary penalty (AMP) of $3,970 to Noremtech Inc. The company holds a CNSC licence for the possession, transfer, import, export, use and servicing of nuclear substances and prescribed equipment.

The AMP was issued to Noremtech Inc. for failing to comply with the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations (TDGR) for a shipment of 3 packages containing fixed nuclear gauges. The licensee reported to the CNSC that, upon receipt of the packages, the consignee identified higher-than-expected radiation dose rates along with discrepancies in the accompanying shipping documentation.

CNSC staff reviewed the shipping documents and photos of the packages. They identified that the licensee had failed to comply with the TDGR in multiple ways, including:

• improper package marking and labelling
• deficiencies in shipping documentation
• incorrect identification of required transport vehicle placards

This lack of compliance with the TDGR did not result in any adverse health effects or other consequences. However, there was potential for workers to be exposed to higher-than-expected radiation fields if the issue had not been identified. In addition, if an accident had occurred during transport, the incorrect labelling could have affected the implementation of appropriate emergency response and safety measures.

This AMP was issued to Noremtech Inc. to promote compliance and deter future non-compliance with the TDGR.
