Description

REGDOC 2.12.1- General Nuclear Security sets out the CNSC’s expectations, clarifies the requirements for, and provides guidance to assure protection of functions important to nuclear safety, nuclear security, emergency preparedness and safeguards at nuclear facilities and during transportation of Category I, II, and III nuclear materials.

REGDOC-2.12.1, General Nuclear Security, was created to provide guidance for Canadians on how to meet the requirements of the new Nuclear Security Regulations and other federal legislation and regulations as necessary.

REGDOC-2.12.1 is a new regulatory document. The 2.12 series of regulatory documents was created when the Nuclear Security Regulations were repealed and replaced on October 30, 2025. This series includes REGDOC-2.12.1, REGDOC-2.12.2 and REGDOC-2.12.3, which replace previous regulatory documents under the old Nuclear Security Regulations and that had the same number. Important note: The new REGDOC-2.12.1, REGDOC-2.12.2 and REGDOC-2.12.3 cover different topics than the documents they are replacing.
