Modernizing of CNSC's Nuclear Security Regulatory Framework

On April 13, 2021, the CNSC will be holding an information session via webinar about the modernization of its nuclear security regulatory framework.

Nuclear security is a major consideration in all activities of the CNSC. The CNSC enforces Canada’s Nuclear Security Regulations (NSR) at all facilities containing Category I, II and III nuclear material. These facilities include high-security nuclear sites and nuclear substance processing facilities. The CNSC is also responsible for enforcing security via the General Nuclear Safety and Control Regulations.

The purpose of this information session is to provide information about:

  • the modernization of the CNSC’s nuclear security framework which includes proposed amendments to the NSR,
  • the CNSC’s research and past consultation activities to modernize this framework, and
  • upcoming public consultation on 2 discussion papers related to nuclear security (DIS-21-02, Proposals to Amend the Nuclear Security Regulations, consultation in April 2021)(DIS-21-03, Cybersecurity and the Protection of Digital Information, consultation date to be announced).
