Participant funding for Ontario Power Generation's licence renewal application for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station
Participant funding for the review of the licence renewal application, submitted by Ontario Power Generation (OPG), for the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station (NGS) will be open from September 29, 2017 to December 1, 2017.
Participant funding notice
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering participant funding to assist members of the public, Indigenous groups and other stakeholders in participating in the licence application review and the Commission hearing process for the renewal of OPG’s nuclear power reactor operating licence for the Pickering NGS. The Pickering NGS is located in Pickering, Ontario on the north shore of Lake Ontario.
The CNSC will hold a two-part public hearing on April 4, 2018 and June 26–28, 2018 to consider OPG’s application to renew its nuclear power reactor operating licence for a period of 10 years, until August 31, 2028. The current licence expires on August 31, 2018. OPG intends to cease commercial operation of all Pickering units on December 31, 2024.
A total of $100,000 in participant funding is being offered for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information, through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation including CNSC staff and OPG’s Commission member documents, and for participation in the public Commission hearing.
To apply for participant funding, interested parties must complete and submit a participant funding application form. Certain terms and conditions apply. An application form can be submitted as follows:
