Participant funding for École Polytechnique de Montréal's licence renewal application

This participant funding opportunity is open from June 13 to August 12, 2022.

Participant funding notice

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) will hold a public hearing  in April 2023 to consider an application from École Polytechnique de Montréal to renew the non-power reactor operating licence for its SLOWPOKE-2 facility for a period of 10 years. The facility is located in Montréal, Quebec, on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek, Haudenosaunee, Huron-Wendat, Kanien'keha:ka, and Mohawk peoples.

The CNSC is offering participant funding to assist Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and stakeholders in reviewing École Polytechnique de Montréal’s application and other associated documents, and in participating in the Commission hearing process.

Up to $15,000 in participant funding will be disbursed among all eligible applicants for the provision of new, distinctive and valuable information through informed and topic-specific interventions to the Commission. Funding will be awarded for the review of documentation, including CNSC staff’s documents and École Polytechnique de Montréal’s Commission member documents, and for participation in the public Commission hearing. Funding for travel to the Commission hearing is within the scope of this opportunity. However, due to potential travel restrictions or limitations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commission will announce at a later date whether there will be in-person oral presentations at the hearing.
