Participant Funding Program decision – CNSC staff meetings with Manitoba Métis Federation to discuss participation in the Federal and Indigenous Review Team for the Whiteshell Reactor #1 project
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) offered funding through its Participant Funding Program (PFP) to assist the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) in meeting with CNSC staff. The 2 parties are meeting to discuss MMF participation in the Federal and Indigenous Review Team for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories’ in situ decommissioning of Whiteshell Reactor #1. The PFP funding is also intended to support MMF participation in the Commission hearing associated with the project.
The information gathered from these meetings and activities will be included in the relevant Commission member documents in order to bring any valuable information directly to the Commission.
Background
The CNSC makes participant funding available to:
- enhance Indigenous and public participation in the CNSC’s environmental assessment and licensing processes
- help Indigenous Nations and communities, members of the public and interested parties bring valuable information to the Commission
A funding review committee (FRC) was established to review the funding application received by the CNSC’s PFP administrator and to make recommendations on the allocation of funding to the applicant.
On May 20, 2025, the FRC reviewed the PFP application received by the CNSC.
Eligibility and funding criteria
