REGDOC-2.13.1, Safeguards and Nuclear Material Accountancy

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) implements safeguards programs and activities to help Canada meet its obligations arising from the Canada/International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards agreements, as well as all other measures arising from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.

Overview

REGDOC-2.13.1, Safeguards and Nuclear Material Accountancy, Version 2, provides information for:

  • anyone who possesses nuclear material, operates a uranium and/or thorium mine
  • anyone who carries out certain types of nuclear fuel-cycle related research and development or nuclear-related manufacturing activities in Canada

The requirements and guidance in this document allow Canada to meet its commitments under the safeguards agreements with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and are consistent with modern national and international practices.
