About CSA Group

CSA Group is a standards development organization accredited by the Standards Council of Canada and the American National Standards Institute. It also contributes to international standards through participation with organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission.

CSA Group has been developing nuclear standards since the late 1970s. These standards are created and maintained with input from volunteer experts representing industry, public interest groups, and government bodies, including the CNSC. They help ensure safety across many nuclear activities and support regulatory, policy and operational needs.

Topics covered by CSA nuclear standards include:

  • environmental protection
  • radioactive waste
  • decommissioning
  • management systems
  • pressure boundaries
  • periodic inspections
  • safety systems and safety analysis
  • electrical safety
  • structural integrity
  • seismic qualification

Together, these standards support the safe design, operation and regulation of nuclear facilities in Canada.
