Administrative monetary penalty issued to NexGen Energy Ltd.

On December 12, 2024, the CNSC issued an administrative monetary penalty (AMP) of $29,080 to NexGen Energy Ltd. (NexGen).

The AMP was issued to NexGen for performing site preparation and construction of a uranium mine and mill facility without a CNSC licence. These activities involved making 2 large circular arrays of cased drill holes, intended for the creation of freeze walls for the development of mine shafts for the Rook-I Project on Patterson Lake, Saskatchewan.

This AMP is being issued to NexGen to promote compliance and to deter reoccurrence.

Administrative monetary penalty modified by the Commission

April 8, 2025

As provided for under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, NexGen requested a review of the AMP. The Commission has reviewed the AMP and determined that the applicant committed the violation. As a result of the review, the Commission reduced the amount of the penalty.
