Order issued to Groupe ABS Inc.

February 24, 2026

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) issued an order to Groupe ABS Inc. following inspections conducted in February 2026 at several company locations, including Montréal (7950 rue Vauban, Anjou, QC) and Saint-Rémi (17 rue de l’Industrie, Saint-Rémi, QC).

The order was issued to protect the health and safety of workers and the public after elevated radiation dose rates were identified around nuclear gauge storage areas. Reviews of dose assessments submitted by the licensee identified deficiencies and raised concerns about doses received by both nuclear energy workers (NEWs) and non-NEWs, including one non-NEW at the Montréal location who received an estimated annual dose of 2.14 mSv. Subsequent reactive inspections conducted on February 19, 2026, confirmed areas of concern at the Montréal and Saint-Rémi locations related to radiation exposures and compliance with the requirement to keep doses as low as reasonably achievable.

Groupe ABS Inc. must immediately limit occupancy to a maximum of 5 hours per week in specified offices and workstations at the Montréal and Saint-Rémi locations, conduct an analysis of doses received by affected individuals, implement measures to reduce radiation exposure, and submit a report to the CNSC detailing the actions taken. The order will remain in effect until CNSC staff are satisfied that regulatory compliance has been restored.
