Join us on April 2, 2026, for an engagement session on regulatory efficiency and red tape reduction, where we will discuss the CNSC’s approach to regulatory efficiency and invite perspectives from the public.

The purpose of this session:

  • share the CNSC’s approach to regulatory efficiency and to the Government of Canada’s Red Tape Review (RTR)
  • highlight how feedback from recent engagement with industry and with Indigenous Nations and communities, as well as the RTR commitments, are informing the CNSC’s efforts to reduce red tape while upholding nuclear safety, transparency and public trust
  • invite participants to share their perspectives on current regulatory efficiency challenges, identify priority areas for improvement, and explore practical opportunities to enhance the efficiency of the CNSC’s regulatory framework

Presentation: The CNSC’s Approach to Regulatory Efficiency and the Red Tape Review

Objective: Provide participants with a high-level overview of the CNSC’s regulatory efficiency efforts and the RTR. The presentation will also share what the CNSC heard from recent engagement sessions with Industry and Indigenous Nations, which were held to foster transparency, gather ideas, and enable conversation focused on identifying efficiencies and reducing administrative burden.

  1. Key areas raised at different engagement meetings:
    • Several key areas identified during different engagement meetings where regulatory efficiency could be improved; these include:
      1. reporting requirements
      2. cost-benefit analysis and
      3. licence application guides
    • Do you see a need for greater efficiency in these areas? If so, what specific improvements or approaches would you recommend?
  2. Regulatory efficiency:
    • Where do you think the CNSC could most improve efficiency — in licensing, regulatory consultations and Commission hearings? Could you please share specific examples.
  3. Regulatory framework:
Polling and roundtable discussion: Participants are invited to take part in polls and share views, experiences, and recommendations.

  1. Red Tape Review initiatives:
    • Do you see other administrative or procedural areas with opportunities for increased efficiency? What specific changes would you suggest?

    • What types of digital tools, technologies, or process innovations could help streamline regulatory activities while maintaining safety and transparency? Please share any specific examples or recommendations.
    • Do you have any other thoughts not covered yet on how the CNSC could improve regulatory efficiency?
