Professional biography

Sophie has worked at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) since 2017. As a dosimetry service program officer in the Radiation Protection Division, she coordinates reviews and evaluates licensing activities related to licensed dosimetry services, which measure and monitor radiation doses to people.

Expertise and education

Her academic background includes a diploma of college studies in laboratory technology– biotechnology from the Cégep de l’Outaouais and a bachelor of science with a specialization in environmental science from the University of Ottawa. Her expertise includes dosimetry services, radiation protection, licensing, environmental monitoring, laboratory testing and the review of technical and management system requirements.

Roles and responsibilities

In her role, Sophie reviews dosimetry service licence applications to determine whether they meet CNSC regulatory requirements. Her work helps ensure that radiation doses are monitored with enough accuracy and precision to enable licensees, including licensees of new nuclear facilities and small modular reactors, to evaluate their radiation protection programs, keep doses as low as reasonably achievable, and respect dose limits under the Radiation Protection Regulations.

Other highlights

Sophie developed the Dosimetry Service Verification Strategy to support a systematic, consistent and risk-informed approach to compliance verification for dosimetry service licensees. The strategy includes a 10-year baseline compliance plan and work instructions that help guide compliance activities and support science-based, evidence-informed regulatory decisions.
