Professional biography
Sean has worked at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) since 2011. As a Senior Project Officer in the Advanced Reactor Assessment Division, he supports licensing work for new reactor projects, with a focus on nuclear safety, regulatory requirements and the application of the CNSC’s regulatory framework to advanced reactor technologies.
Expertise and education
His academic background includes a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the University of New Brunswick. He also has experience in other energy sectors, such as wind and solar technologies, giving him a broad understanding of energy systems, modern technology and the technical review of proposed reactor projects.
Roles and responsibilities
In his role, Sean works as part of a team that reviews how the CNSC’s regulatory framework applies to different types of power reactors, including small modular reactors. His portfolio includes proposed reactor projects in Ontario, and his work helps support licensing reviews, safety considerations and regulatory readiness for advanced reactor technologies.
Other highlights
Sean has also worked on pre-licensing vendor design reviews of nuclear facilities. This optional service allows CNSC staff to provide early feedback on the design of a proposed nuclear power plant before a licence application is submitted. His work supports early regulatory clarity and helps applicants better understand CNSC expectations for safety and licensing.
