Professional biography
Kristi is an environmental program officer at the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), where she supports the assessment and regulatory oversight of environmental protection measures at nuclear facilities across Canada. Her work focuses on verifying that licensed activities meet the regulatory requirements for environmental protection.
Expertise and education
Kristi holds a master of public health from Queen’s University, as well as a graduate diploma in population health risk assessment and management and a bachelor of health sciences from the University of Ottawa. Her areas of expertise include environmental protection, epidemiology, health sciences, risk assessment and risk communication.
Roles and responsibilities
In her role, Kristi reviews licensee submissions, analyzes environmental monitoring data, and verifies compliance with regulatory requirements. She conducts and evaluates atmospheric dispersion modelling to assess potential public radiation doses from nuclear facilities. Through this work, she contributes to ensuring that nuclear activities in Canada are conducted safely and that the environment remains protected.
Other highlights
Kristi previously served as a technical expert supporting the Secretariat of the United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), and coordinated UNSCEAR’s report on epidemiological studies of ionizing radiation and cancer. She also participated in the World Nuclear University in 2023, an international leadership and professional development program for nuclear professionals.
