Northern Saskatchewan is one of the world’s leaders in uranium production. It is home to three active uranium mines and three mills, with another mine currently under construction. Additional new mining and milling projects have also been proposed for northern Saskatchewan.

At this time, all operating uranium mines in Canada are located in northern Saskatchewan, although new mining and milling projects are proposed for Quebec and Nunavut. In Saskatchewan, AREVA Resources Canada and Cameco Corporation are the two main licensees of the active mining and milling facilities.
