Joint Review Panel Established for the Proposed Bruce Power New Nuclear Power Plant Project

OTTAWA – Three panel members were appointed today to a Joint Review Panel (JRP) established to review the proposed Bruce Power New Nuclear Power Plant project located in the Municipality of Kincardine, Ontario.
The appointment of Dr. Louis LaPierre (Panel Chair), Mr. André Harvey and Dr. Moyra J. McDill was made jointly between Canada’s Environment Minister, John Baird, and the President of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), Michael Binder.
The JRP will conduct the environmental assessment and consider the licence application to prepare a site for the project. Bruce Power Inc. is proposing the site preparation and the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of up to four new nuclear reactors at the existing Bruce Nuclear Site, located on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, north of Kincardine. The project is expected to generate approximately 4,000 megawatts of electricity to the Ontario grid.
