Under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and associated regulations, various levels of regulatory action can be taken by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and the environment.

The corrective measures implemented by EnviroGeo Testing were reviewed and found satisfactory by CNSC staff. EnviroGeo Testing has since resumed normal operations.
On August 25, 2011, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced that it issued an order to 770088 Alberta Ltd. (operating as EnviroGeo Testing).
EnviroGeo Testing is a company based in Medicine Hat, Alberta, that provides geotechnical, environmental and materials testing services. The company holds a CNSC licence to possess portable nuclear gauges used to measure the density and moisture content of compacted material.
The order was issued following a CNSC inspection on August 23, 2011. The inspection revealed that the company’s staff has insufficient knowledge and training to carry out their licensed activity safely. The order requires the company to keep all nuclear gauges in storage until employees have received appropriate training, and all items of non-compliance identified during the inspection have been addressed to the satisfaction of the CNSC.
The current placement of the portable nuclear gauges in storage does not pose any immediate risk to the health and safety of workers, the public, or the environment.
