Request for Public Comment on Draft Environmental Assessment Guidelines for the Proposed Construction and Operation and a New Dry Storage System at Chalk River Laboratories

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) invites public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) Guidelines for the Proposed Construction and Operation of a New Dry Storage System (NDSS) located at the Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).

The proposed project includes the construction of the processing and storage buildings for the dry storage containers and all facilities, systems and activities required for the construction and operation of the NDSS facility.

The project is subject to an environmental assessment under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). The public is invited to comment on the draft EA Guidelines which identify key issues and studies required in the assessment to be conducted by the proponent. The public comment period closes on July 18, 2008. Interested parties should forward their written comments in the official language of their choice, via mail, e-mail or fax, to the attention of:
