Request for Public Comment on Draft Environmental Assessment Guidelines / Proposed Decommissioning of National Research Experimental (NRX) Ancillary Buildings at Chalk River Laboratories

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) invites public comment on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) Guidelines for the proposed Decommissioning of the National Research Experimental (NRX) ancillary buildings located at Chalk River Laboratories (CRL).

The proposed project involves the decommissioning of the ancillary buildings/structures that were previously associated with the NRX reactor at CRL.  Once the buildings are decommissioned, the site will be remediated and designed for reuse that is consistent with its location in the development area of the CRL site.

The project is subject to an environmental assessment under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA).  The public is invited to comment on the draft EA Guidelines which identify key issues and studies required in the assessment to be conducted by the proponent. The public comment period closes on August 15, 2008.  Interested parties should forward their written comments in the official language of their choice, via mail, e-mail or fax, to the attention of:
