Summary
REGDOC-2.5.2, Design of Reactor Facilities, Version 2 sets out the CNSC's requirements and guidance for the design of new water-cooled reactor facilities.
REGDOC-2.5.2, Version 2 is a merger of REGDOC-2.5.2, Design of Reactor Facilities: Nuclear Power Plants (2014) and RD-367, Design of Small Reactor facilities (2011). To the extent practicable, the document is technology-neutral with respect to water cooled reactors. It includes requirements and guidance for:
- Establishing safety goals and objectives for the design
- Utilizing safety principles in the design
- Applying safety management principles
- Designing structures, systems and components
- Interfacing engineering aspects, plant features and facility layouts
- Integrating safety assessments into the design process
This regulatory document is intended for CNSC staff to use when reviewing applications to construct new water-cooled reactor facilities in Canada. It is also intended to provide requirements and guidance to all applicants and licensees involved in preparing applications for a licence to construct a water-cooled reactor facility. Finally, it assists reactor vendors in the development of new reactor designs.
REGDOC-2.5.2, Version 2 will supersede REGDOC-2.5.2, Design of Reactor Facilities: Nuclear Power Plants (2014) and RD-367, Design of Small Reactor Facilities (2011).
